What interested me first about this book was the time that it was set in and as I am familiar with the area, the subject matter. I wasn't aware of the story previously. The book kept me interested the whole way through, and I would highly recommend it to others.

I read the book for two reasons. First of all it was the choice of my book club. Secondly, I had noticed it in bookshops because my father was a postman and his surname was Griffin! So my curiosity was piqued. I have given it 5 stars because it is so well written. It engages the reader from page 1. It is a fascinating story told superbly well. It throws a light on Ireland that helps to explain where and how we are today. I would recommend it to all Irish people.
