Success is generated from within with a deeper, more fulfilling emotional fulfillment than financial gain can ever reach. Those companies and organizations that identify potential leaders based on their performance and qualities, then groom them for more challenging and rewarding positions are preparing their companies/organizations for the future. A true leader, regardless of his position or rank in a business or organization, inspires people to do what the leader defines for them to do. Leadership starts on the front lines and in any areas that require a group of people to work together. The most effective supervisor is a leader, one who builds confidence and trust with his people. If two people agree on everything, then one of them is compromising what he or she really believes. One person can’t always be wrong and another right. How do we balance this need for honesty with the tendency to withhold? We all do it on some level every day, whether it’s at work or at home. All of the above topics are discussed at length, providing insight and learning opportunities.

Jim Maher has been in management, leadership, and ownership positions for over thirty years, primarily in the human resources profession. He has been a certified senior professional in human resources for many years, as well as a college survivor who was able to graduate thanks to his wife’s diligence and cooperation. Being direct and matter-of-fact is Maher’s style, sometimes to his detriment! But this book is the result of his desire to help others succeed and grow in their professional and personal lives.

Like many business professionals, I have read many management and leadership books over the years. I highly suggest this quick read for several reasons: The content written from real life examples over years of studying positive and negative behaviors in the workplace, the thought-provoking questions throughout the book that challenge the reader to evaluate his own behavior as well as that of his teams, the lessons and strong messages to "leaders" who "manage" from their offices and spreadsheets instead of from the factory floor or engaged in getting to know the people in the company at every level. Whether this is your first leadership read or your 100th, you will learn and/or be reminded of valuable life lessons from this one!

I enjoyed reading, Leaders Losers And Lessons. I liked how the author used observations and stories to point out the difference between a real leader vs a person that calls themselves a leader, and what it takes to be an effective leader in a business or corporation. One example that the author talks about is the importance of a leader being an effective listener. If you want to be a real leader, I highly recommend that you read this book.

“Leaders, Losers, and Lessons” -- A quick read that will make you think differently about what you do and how you do it. Good decisions truly drive business success, and the cases in this book are clear and concise. They take you to the proverbial “fork in the road”. The author has experienced first-hand "the good, the bad, and the ugly", best practices, and lessons learned in human behavior and conditioned responses over time. “Newbie” or “Old School”, there is something here to learn…
