Don't look for flowery writing or sensitive thoughts. No filters. This book is an awesome and realistic brain dump from someone who really was "Inside the Yellow Tape" for much of his adult life. The literary establishment might think the book a little rough around the edges, but that is exactly what makes it a great read. You can tell it came from a real person who had a deep passion for protecting the innocent. This is a must-read for mystery fans, anyone who plans to become a cop, and any cop who wants to be a detective. Moreover, it should be legally mandated for anyone who wants to join one of those citizen oversight boards that try to tell real cops how to do their jobs.

This is a gritty, kinda biographical book.I take as 'gospel' all the incidents mentioned - even if only some of them were true, it's amazing. From a literay aspect - the telling is a bit soulless and he does not come off as likable - but: perhaps it just the nature of the guy? Then there's rather a lot of self-congratulations which becomes a little embarassing.I wonder if all the names mentioned are real as there are some unkind comments about some individuals he worked with :-)?Unfortunately, there is a generous garnish of grammatical glitches which interrupts the readers' flow.Don't think I want to go back to Seattle - too dangerous....STILL - an interesting read about some realities of living in America....

I couldn't put book down. This is true deptiction how Homicide detectives do their investigations. Working hours on a case, day and night. Cases in book actually happened here in Seattle. The calls in middle of night about yet another senseless killing of a human being. The dedication to solving a murder. Nothing like tv shows portray detectives working on a case. Great read!!!

Most of these stories are so gritty and dark that it's hard to believe they are true. Told from the perspective of a seasoned pro though, not only are they true but they are recounted as if it was just another day at work. An amazing read that I couldn't put down, with each story shocking or disturbing but incredibly interesting. Detective Steiger has definitely seen some stuff that would break a normal man.

A great read, I couldn’t put it down until the end. If you are looking for real crime stories from someone who was behind the yellow tape this is the book for you.

Steiger writes the way cops talk. It's direct, unvarnished but he leaves out the excessive gore. It is a hard job. He told it very well.

More than a police procedural, it’s an important read that holds nothing back. It gives closure to people familiar with the cases. Cloyd Steiger and friends fighting against truly evil people.

This is a tough, gritty, "inside" look at life in the homicide lane from a veteran detective who is the real deal. For 22 years Cloyd Steiger worked the streets of Seattle tracking down the worst of the worst - cold blooded killers. And here he lifts the curtain on many of his most notorious cases.A compelling read. Highly recommended.
