Flip Flap Floodle, a sweet trusting musical duckling encounters several characters on his way to Grandma's house. There's Mr. Chicken, Mr. Bear, and the baddy-wad Mr. Fox. This is a delightful story on several developmental levels: colorful illustrations to entertain toddlers; a funny story that will enrapture kindergarten-age children; a self-reader for first and second graders; a good message for older children; and a musical book to please all children. A great twist at the end!

Flip Flap Floodle is a nice little story with music. The lead character is marvel for his high self worth. The moral of the tale is listen to your momma.

A sweet, but very slight story. I would have liked a bit more variety in the tune he was playing.

This is a tale about Flip; a little yellow fellow who has a musical talent and a never ending energy that keeps him believing in himself. While a devious act is committed against Flip, in spite of his demise, he never loses hope. His Mother, who fears for his safety, gives the villain a well deserved thrashing. But, the real empowerment of the story is Flip, who never loses faith in his special talent, or in himself. This cute, quirky, and a little bit scary story, has some nurturing life lessons for children. It shows friendship, faith, love and entertainment among its pages. I give Flip Flap Floodle, written and illustrated by Joan Y. Edwards, 5 ***** stars for bright engaging illustrations, and content that is sure to amuse young children. This book has been reviewed by Susan Hornbach, author of children's literature

Flip Flap Floodle is a cute little story for any cute little children in your life. The lively, colourful pictures will grab a toddler's eyes, and if you can read a few notes of music, you can whistle Flip's tune. The simple story line is just right for the age group, and is readily adaptable to the parent doing a little acting, encouraging the child to do the same.Like any good children's story, this one teaches lessons. In simple words, embedded in a lot of fun, are the messages: be careful, don't trust the Mr. Foxes of your world; act with strength and resolution in the face of adversity; never give up.

Flip Flap Floodle tells a delightful story, especially for 3- to 7-year olds. This sweet and inspiring tale of a happy yellow duckling would make perfect bedtime reading. Flip has learned a song on his new flute and sets off through the woods to Grandma's house to play her his song. Children will enjoy singing along with Flip's simple tune (music is included) as he entertains those he meets along the way. Mr. Bear is in too big a hurry to listen for long, but Mr. Chicken predicts that Flip will someday be a star. While daydreaming about stardom, Flip encounters mean old Mr. Fox, who isn't impressed by Flip's music but would love to eat an unsuspecting duck for dinner. When feisty Mrs. Floodle comes looking for her son, Flip learns the importance of knowing whom to trust and of accepting a little help now and then. The story also affirms the values of persistence, confidence, courage, and love. Author Joan Y. Edwards's vibrantly colorful illustrations will charm and engage young readers.

I met Joan Edwards, the author of Flip Flap Floodle while interviewing her about her book Joan's Eldercare Guide. This is when I discovered the delightful story about her musical duck. I shared the story with my 3 year old grandson and now we can't stop singing Flip Flap Floodle, Floodle, Floodle. As a former music educator, I know that it is the simplest of melodies that have the ability to grab and retain not only a child's attention, but apparently mine too. Flip Flap Floodle, Floodle Floodle ...
