This author is quoted often and I accept the opinion that his investigations provide valuable insight into after death experience but the man should have hired someone else to write his book. What he turned out is so clinical and sterile that it's unreadable. I wonder how many people who are truly interested in the subject have had the endurance to drudge through the book. Buy something else . . EVERYTHING ELSE before you spend your money on this.

I read Dr. Michael Sabom's book some years ago, and hope to reread it soon.NOTE: Dr. Sabom is a cardiologist, who puts his faith strictly in the scientific method. He has no use for any non-scientific explanations for near-death experiences or any other paranormal phenomena. In the first part of his book he stated: "Unscientific -- that I will never be." He gave a brief account of an adult education session by the Methodist Church where he was in attendance, at which Dr. Raymond Moody (author of "Life After Life" and "Reflections on Life After Life") gave a presentation. Afterwards, Dr. Sabom stated that the kindest thing he could say about Dr. Moody's presentation was: "I don't believe a word of it." But he was talked into doing a study using patients who had sustained NDEs resulting from serious medical emergencies. I understand that he was at first reluctant to undertake this project because he believed nothing would come of it.Dr. Sabom is the ideal type of researcher of near-death experiences: a confirmed skeptic and believer in the scientific method, who DID NOT BELIEVE, at least initially, the reality of what he was investigating. **This is crucial**. It means that he is unlikely to give credence to anything other than solid scientific evidence. It also means that he is unlikely to go one iota beyond what that evidence shows. His book does exactly that -- demonstrates in easy-to-understand language what his research has come up with. No metaphysical speculation. "just the facts."Also a compelling page-turner. I don't see how any of the physicalist-atheists can debunk it.

I have read tons of works on NDEs and CDEs, all of Moody's books, etc. Nevertheless, Sabon starts where the others ended. The content of the book is so incredible that once you have it in your hands you will never let it go and will keep it like a treasure. As per the book itself, I received it used, but in good condition, and the price.., anything less expensive had been free. I am very happy I bought it. Recollections of Death: A Medical Investigation

Although this is an older book on this topic, I found it very fascinating. There are plenty of stories that are categorized in into a scientific study conducted by the author that is certainly thought provoking. Much of the time throughout this book is spent on what the authors calls "Autoscopic" experiences, or out-of-body experiences of the NDE. The author's findings are difficult to ignore. If you are well versed in books on this topic, I would still recommend reading this book. It is an easy study to comprehend and many of the accounts in the book are unique.

I worked for Dr. Sabom and I can attest to his character and total believe in the facts within the book. He is a man of unshakeable faith and a talented physician. This book shows his quest for understanding the death process and the possibility of proving what happens during the final journey of a patient's life. I recommend it to anyone who has questions about the subject since it is written with the compassion of a dedicated physician and a man of strong religious beliefs.

I love it and literally can't put it down. If I have to wait for someone-even a few minutes- the book is with me! Love these kinds of medical stories. The only thing I would say, is that the jacket cover was quite "beat up". But, no matter. It was only the jacket. It's an absolutely fascinating, intriging account of NDE's and OBE's.
